Brave Hanumanthapa emerges alive after seventh day of his burial under a massive avalanche at Siachen
Partapur (Siachen Base), February 9,(Scoop News)_An Indian army soldier,Hanumanthapa, of 19 Madras Regiment was extricated alive after seventh day of his burial under 25 feet deep snow avalanche that hit his 19,600 feet high shelter at Post One on Siachen glacier on February 3, a senior defence official told Scoop news on Tuesday.


“His condition is not good. He is completely exhausted and dehydrated and we are making all our efforts to shift him to a hospital for treatment”, he added.

The official said the bodies of five soldiers were recovered so far, of which four have been identified and the search for remaining four troopers continues.


He said a new camp has been established near the site for coordination of various rescue teams who are cutting through up to 30 feet of ice at multiple locations by using specializes equipment which was inducted few days back with the rescue teams.


“The teams are working round the clock and observing all precautions since the unstable ice and snow in the area could trigger fresh avalanches”, the official said adding “however, the rescue operations will continue till all our soldiers are found”.


10 soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were trapped under a massive avalanche that struck an army post in northern part of the glacier on last Wednesday.


Meanwhile,Lieutenant General DS Hooda, Northern Army Commander said that in the ongoing rescue operation at Siachen, of the ten soldiers buried under ice Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad has been found alive, all the other soldiers are regrettably no more with us.




"The medical condition of Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad is critical but all attempts are being made to evacuate him to RR Hospital in the morning. We hope the miracle continues. Pray with us,"said DS Hooda.
