State pollution control board holds public hearing at Kiru

Kishtwar, November 30 (Scoop News)-To redress the grievances of the people of the area, a Public hearing for environmental clearance of 624 MW Kiru Hydro electric Project was conducted by J&K State pollution control board at village Kiru(Pathar Nakki) Kishtwar.
A large number of people including members of various NGOs and locals from various villages including Piyas, Galhar Bhatta, Chhichha and Bhagna participated in the interactive session.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar ,Mr Ghulam Nabi Balwan, while speaking on the occasion assured the locals that the detailed rehabilitation and resettlement plan for the effected families will be ensured by the district administration. Explaining the importance of constructing such projects Mr Balwan said it provides clean power in comparison to other conventional sources and has a potential to boost the socio –economic development of the region in general and local area in particular.
Environment consultant, Prof. Anil Kumar Raina provided detailed description of the environmental impacts associated with the establishment of the project and elaborated on the management plan devised for proper mitigation of such impacts with the details of rehabilitation and resettlement plan prepared for the project affected families.
Representatives of public including Sarpanches and Panches of the affected villages and project put forth their queries regarding the rehabilitation package and employment opportunities, besides the measures for overall development of the area which were redressed on the spot by DC by giving directions to the project authorities.
