Lt. Gen Ashok Ambre takes over as new GOC of Rising Star Corps
Gen Dalbir Singh, COAS, visiting Sri Lanka


Udhampur, November 29, (Scoop News)-Lt Gen Ashok Ambre with an excellent service profile, and rich experience in counter-terrorist operations, assumes command of the Rising Star Corps, a defence spokesman said on Sunday.



He said Lt Gen Rajeev Tewari hands over the reins of the Rising Star Corps to Lt Gen Ashok Ambre. Lt Gen Tewari, during his illustrious command of the Formation, oversaw the effective handling of counter-terrorists operations, resulting in the elimination of all infiltrating terrorists, and the successful conduct of rescue missions in the Corps zone.


"Besides, numerous socio-economic and sports activities were conducted to render succour to the locals in the border areas and ensure constructive engagement and development of the youth", the spokesman added.


The General Officer gave an impetus to further development of synergy and deeper understanding of the Army’s relations with the Police, Paramilitary Forces and the Civil Administration, he said.




Laroka, November 29, (Scoop News)_Giving an impetus to the Swach Bharat Abhiyan, the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Jhangar under the aegis of Rashtriya Rifles counter insurgency Uniform Force Headquarters, Reasi conducted `Cleanliness Drive' in coordination with the civil administration at Laroka and adjoining villages.



The event gained significance with various lectures by the Regimental Medical Officer on health and hygiene, short duration movies for students of Government High School, Laroka and clean house competitions for the residents of Saryah and Jhangar being organised. The local populace contributed to the efforts with their whole hearted participation in the event which was graced by officials from the civil administration and the Army.



The local populace appreciated the initiative undertaken by the Army and said that, a clean living environment will help in a disease free future for children and simulate all round social development.


Colombo, November 29, (Scoop News)_General Dalbir Singh, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), will embark on a four day goodwill visit to Sri Lanka from between November 30 and December 3. The visit assumes special significance in light of increasing defence cooperation between the two countries. In recent years, the Indo- Sri Lanka relationship has been marked by high level bilateral exchanges in various fields between the two countries.



Amongst the countries of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), Sri Lanka is the most important partner and one of our most important neighbour. Defence and Security Cooperation between the two countries have been an important component of the Bilateral Strategic partnership. Bilateral exchanges at various levels over the past year with significant progress in implementation of developmental assistance projects, enhancement of trade and defence cooperation has helped further cement the bonds of friendship between the two countries. Defence cooperation between the two countries has been characterized by mutual training exercises, exchanges at functional level, cooperation in maritime security and humanitarian assistance.



During his visit, the COAS is scheduled to interact with senior officials of Defence Forces and Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka to discuss a wide range of issues and to enhance military cooperation. He will also visit training establishments and Formation Headquarters. The visit will further enhance the longstanding ties and cooperation in other areas of mutual interest between India and Sri Lanka, including regional security.
