| All parties echo cohesive concern on curbing rising domestic violence | | Srinagar, October 8,(Scoop News)- Ruling PDP-BJP and opposition parties on Thursday shared similar views on curbing the rising domestic violence cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior opposition leader and MLA Khanyar, Ali Muhammad Sagar, had in his calling attention motion asked the government to inform the House about the status of the Khanyar domestic violence case.
Meanwhile Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri in a reply to his calling attention notice said that the government has initiated immediate action in the domestic violence case.
“Police have acted promptly on the case and launched investigation into it,” Mr Veeri informed the house.
The minister said that FIR NO 63/2015 under section 309 RPC was registered and investigation was initiated. The Minister said that the accused has been arrested and are presently on police remand.
The NC leader, Ali Muhammad Sagar in his reply said that opposition will come forward to help government to curb the rising domestic violence cases in the State.
“We assure the government that we will help you and support you in curbing the rising domestic violence cases in the State, This is a very serious matter and should be stopped at a positive note,” Sagar in his reply said.
He said that no one could afford to play politics on this crucial issue.
“How can we allow people to play politics on this crucial issue? We assure the government that we will be with you to curb this menace,” he said. He said that civil society members and NGOs have expressed their resentment over the rising domestic violence cases across the State and especially the Khanyar incident has shocked the society.
Earlier speaking on the issue, Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, directed officials to make sure that they remain vigilant in controlling such incidents across the State.
“The accused persons in Khanyar domestic violence case should be strictly punished,” Mufti said.
“I assure the members that the government will make sure that the accused gets exemplary punishment in the case,” Mufti added.
Mufti asked the police officials that accused in domestic violence causes shouldn’t be released on police remand.
“I wonder how culprits and accused in such a domestic violence cases get police remand. How can you release people who burn our daughters,” Mufti said.
