| Kohli reviews traffic scenario, stresses on de-congestion, parking | | Srinagar,September 3 (Scoop News)-Minister of Transport Mr Abdul Gani Kohli today reviewed the progress with respect to streamlining the traffic in various congestion prone areas of the State. He said a special drive is needed to remove encroachments to ease the flow of traffic especially in cities that witness high traffic density on daily basis.
Chairing a meeting here, the Minister stressed on ensuring free flow of traffic, calling on SMC to remove road encroachments immediately. He also called for expediting the construction of parking lots taken up at various places besides asking SDA to ensure that all shopping malls have parking facilities.
On installation of digital meters in all Auto-rikshaws, the Minister instructed to ensure 100% compliance within this month itself.
The Minister also called for expediting installation of High Security License Plates (HSLP). “Till date 3.7 lakh such plates have been fixed and the process is going on across the State” the Minister was informed.
Meanwhile, The Minister said that the government is working on a new transport policy. “We are talking to various stakeholders to ensure that the new policy is inclusive, ensuring better transport services to people,” the Minister said.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Transport Commissioner, Parvez Khateeb and other officers.
