4 militants,jawan killed in encounter in Handwara in North Kashmir



Srinagar, September 3 (Scoop News)-Security forces killed four militants when they launched an anti-insurgency operation Wednesday night following information about presence of militants in the forest area of Sochalyari in Handwara area in North Kashmir.


Defence ministry spokesman Lt Col NN Joshi said that Security Forces on Thursday gunned down four militants in a fierce encounter in Haphruda forest, Handwara in Baramulla district. One Army jawan also made the supreme sacrifice in the operation while three others have sustained bullet injuries.


He said that on specific intelligence about the presence of three to four terrorists in the Haphruda forest, a joint operation was launched by the Army and JKP Wednesday evening. Contact with militants was established at night and a fierce gun battle ensued which continued intermittently through the night resulting in elimination of four militants whose identity is being ascertained. Four AK-47 Rifles, one UBGL and other warlike stores including ammunition, grenades and radio sets have also been recovered from the killed terrorists.


One Army soldier has attained martyrdom while three others have sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment in Army Hospital,. Lt Col NN Joshi said
