CPI (M) protests against hike on petroleum products
Terms govt. decision arbitrary, irrational, demands its immediate rollback

Srinagar, July 27 (Scoop News)- Taking a strong exception to the government move to increase tax rate on petroleum products, hundreds of CPI (M) activists today took to streets and held demonstrations at Partap Park in Srinagar, Kulgam and Anantnag townships against this govt decision demanding its immediate roll back.

Om Prakash Sharma and Abdul Rashid Itoo senior CPI(M) leaders while addressing the rally at Pratap Park in Srinagar said that the increase in tax rate of petroleum products will continue price hike phenomenon, which has been hitting common man, who is already reeling under high inflation rate. The price hike shows that the state government seems least concerned about the welfare of people.

While addressing the party’s protesting workers in Anantnag township, Ghulam Nabi Malik and Ghulam Ahmad Ganie senior CPI(M) leaders termed these arbitrary hikes on petroleum products completely unacceptable and demanded that the state government should immediately rollback its decision. They further remarked that the steep increase in petrol and diesel prices is bound to impose an unbearable burden on the people who are already suffering from rising prices of all the essential commodities. These CPI(M) leaders cautioned the government to desist from imposing arbitrary tax hikes on the consumers resulting into repeated hike on petroleum products and cautions it to refrain from such moves or be ready to face the wrath of people.

Mohammad Amin Dar and Mohammadd Afzal Parry while addressing the rally in Kulgam township observed that the latest hike in prices of diesel and petrol would fuel price rise of essential commodities, which would burden the people of the state further. The increase in petrol and diesel prices will affect transportation costs and will surely have a cascading affect on inflation, they added.

The CPI (M) leaders pledged that it with the support of other left and democratic parties will continue its struggle against such anti-people measures and will not allow the people’s voice going unheard.
