| Bukhari visits NALSAR Hyderabad; Appraises varsity’s legislative framework | | Interacts with VC, faculty, students |  Hyderabad, July 26 (Scoop News)-Continuing its study tour, the high-level delegation from J&K’s Law Ministry last evening visited National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) here, to adopt the best possible model for establishing the maiden National Law University in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation headed by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari, has already visited NLSIU Bangalore in this connection.
The delegation held extensive deliberations with Prof Rizwan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor of NALSAR and other faculty members of the University to get first-hand information on how to go ahead with the ambitious project of having an institution of similar repute and prestige in J&K.
The delegation also interacted with the Vice-Chancellors of Law University Kolkatta and Law University Bihar who had come for a legal studies conference to NALSAR.
Pertinently, the State Government has deputed the high level delegation to NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad and other reputed Law Universities in the country to study how best the proposed National Law University can be established in Jammu and Kashmir.
“During our ongoing visit we are not just trying to figure out the academic and faculty requirement for establishing a reputed Law University in J&K, but also various models of legislations so that we could have the best legislation for the purpose in the State,” the Minister said adding that the team headed by him is also gathering information on some new courses that have been introduced by these prestigious institutions in the fields of legal studies and research.
He said on the last leg of their visit they will be going to National Law University, Dwarka, New Delhi.
The Minister is accompanied by senior officers of the State’s Law Department including Law Secretary, Mr Mohammad Ashraf Mir.
The Minister said that the objective of having a National Law University in J&K is to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes to develop in the students and research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and the like, to organise lectures, seminars, symposia and conferences to promote legal knowledge and to make law and legal processes efficient instruments of social development.
The Minister said that besides undergraduate and post-graduate courses, the proposed Law University in J&K would also offer doctorate in law. There would be also super-specialized courses in Business Law, Corporate Governance, Human Rights, Medical Law, Disability Law, Environmental Law, Cyber Law and IP Law, he said.
He said the development of niche areas would be facilitated through centres focusing on specific subjects to allow students to pursue specific interests, while at the same time creating a rich and diverse human resource base, within the State, in the intended areas of legal studies.
