Chhering Dorjey assesses damages due to sudden flood in Gya-Meru Nallah



Leh,July 24 (Scoop News)-To assess the damages due to sudden flood in Gya-Meru Nallah, the Minister for Cooperatives J&K Chhering Dorjey today along with Executive Engineer I&FC/PHE, Executive Engineer Construction, BDO Kharu, Tehslider Kharu and officials of Commend area visited Gya, Rumtsey, Sasoma and Meru villages.
Due to flood, the Leh –Manali road is also blocked since three days, as between Lato and Meru village at Chalung area about 40 Mtrs road was completely washed away on 20th July 2015. About 200 vehicles along with tourists coming to Leh are also stranded in the Gya-Meru road.
As per Tehsilder Kharu, in Gya-Meru valley about 40 Kanals of land including barley fields were completely washed away in the flood. Two non-residential houses were completely washed away and 4 residential houses were partially damaged and almost all the headworks and irrigational canals in Gya- Meru area were damaged in the flood. Due to uprooting of electric poles at several places along the Gya-Meru Nallah, the valley of Gya-Meru is in dark since 20 days.
The Minister Chhering Dorjey while assessing the damages at different villages directed Exn. I&FC and concerned departments for early restoration of headworks and irrigation canals so that standing crops of farmers could be saved and directed Tehsilder, Kharu to evaluate the exact loss of agriculture land and property.

At Chalung area where Leh-Manali road is blocked since three days, the Minster met with concerned Commander of BRO and directed him to connect the road at the earliest. The Commander BRO said that they will try their best to clear the road by today evening. To evacuate stranded tourists, the minister ordered DC, Leh to send two SRTC buses at the earliest.
