Govt constitutes 3-member panel to work out modalities for reorganization of Horticulture Deptt
Setting up of cold storage, grading & packing Centre at Sopore Fruit Mandi on anvil: Veeri
Srinagar, July 06 (Scoop News)-The Government is contemplating reorganization of Horticulture Department to give boost to horticulture production in the State.
In this regard a 3-member committee consisting Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing and Directors of Horticulture Kashmir and Jammu divisions was constituted here today.
The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Minister for Horticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri.
The Committee would work out details for re-organization of the department and submit the same to the Government within one month for further necessary action.
Commissioner Secretary, Agriculture Production, Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing, Director Horticulture Kashmir were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile a deputation of horticulture employees led by M Y Tarigami, MLA today called on the Minister and put-forth the demands of the employees of Horticulture department for early redressal. The demands include removal of pay anomaly of the employees of the department, re-organization of horticulture department besides amendment of recruitment rules of the department.
Responding to the demands of the employees, the Horticulture Minister said that development of horticulture sector was the top priority of the Government adding that several innovative initiatives including introduction of high density fruit plants, re-introduction of Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), 50% exemption of KCC loans have been taken up.
Veeri said that decision for re-organization of the department is under active consideration of the Government. He assured the employees that their genuine demands would be looked into on priority and directed concerned authorities to initiate necessary action on genuine demands of the employees well in time.
The deputation of fruit growers and traders association Sopore led by its President Fayaz Ahmed Dar also met the Minister and apprised him about their developmental demands needed early action of the Government at Fruit Mandi Sopore.
The deputationists pleaded for upgradation of infrastructure facilities at Fruit Mandi Sopore. They urged for improved drinking water, healthcare facilities in the Mandi, besides urged for adequate transport facilities for fetching the fruit from Sopore to other states of the country.
Responding to the demands, the Horticulture Minister said that a cold storage and grading and packing centre would be soon constructed in Fruit Mandi Sopore adding that all necessary basic facilities would be also improved and upgraded in the Mandi. He said telephonically talked with IG Traffic and instructed him to allow the loaded fruit trucks without any inconvenience on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
