CEC inspects Igoo nallah training project works

Leh,May 21 (Scoop News)-The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar on his 2nd day tour to Kharu block today visited Upper Igoo, Lower Igoo, Phuktsey, Shara-Sharnos, Gya, Rumtse, Sasoma Meeru, Upshi,Tuna and Kulum and assessed about the ongoing development activities being carried out in these villages.
The CEC was accompanied by Executive Councilor Agriculture Sonam Dorje, Executive Councillor Animal & Sheep Husbandry Gyurmet Dorje Executive Councilor Tourism & CA&PD Mohd Shafi Lassu, Councilor Igoo Tashi Norboo, SDM Kharu Ghulam Mehdi and team of district officers and Engineers.
At Igoo, Councillor Igoo Tashi Norboo gave a detailed account of the works completed till date and further requested for upgradation of the existing BSNL tower which incapable to cover whole of the area. Answering the drinking water problems, Executive Engineer Tundup Tashi explained in detail that in absence of natural source of drinking water, the department is putting stress on installation of hand pumps. Further, CEC asked the Sarpanch and Nambardars to prioritise the work of hand pumps.
CEC also inspected the Igoo nallah training project that is being constructed at a cost of ₹ 35 crores under Irrigation & Flood Control. Due to the work being carried out these days there is scarcity of water for irrigation to which CEC gave directions to I&FC to look into the matter for supply of appropriate water for cultivation purpose.
They further apprised CEC that after 2010 flash-flood in Leh district, a Chennai based private firm Neyeli Lignite Corporations Ltd. under Social Corporate Responsibility had promised to give an assistance of ₹ 3 crores of which no-any amount has been received till date and therefore requested to take up the matter with NLC. In this regard, CEC Spalbar told them that they had written letter at previous intervals and also assured of taking it up again with the concerned firm at the earliest.
With both Sheep and Animal Husbandry centres opened at Igoo, the villagers urged CEC for shifting of the Sheep Husbandry Centre and to strengthen the Animal Husbandry Centre instead of the Sheep Husbandry Centre, as there is no need of Sheep Husbandry for them, by shifting the staff from Sheep to Animal Husbandry.
CEC also gave directions to SDM Mehdi to settle the matter of land issue between villagers of Igoo and Army and instructed him to inform the Council before any action is taken otherwise it becomes difficult to amend the actions once taken.
At Igoo-Gorguk, on the request of the villagers CEC directed Exn Construction Division Tsering Angchuk to rebuild the present culvert that was blocked since many years by raising its level within 15 days time so that the water can be used for irrigation purpose.
At Phuktse, Sarpanch Sonam Thardot kept the problems of teachers of Middle School to which CEC on-spot gave directions to DyCEO Deachan Tsomo for checking and solving the issues.
At Shara, the villagers also requested for converting the Sheep Husbandry Centre into Animal Centre to which CEC Spalbar gave directions to area councillor, Sarpanch and nambardars to meet EC A&SH Gyurmet Dorjey to chalk out a long-lasting solution in this regard for the benefit of the general public in the long run.
Talking about the independent projects under Leh Nutrition Project being carried out without the consent of the villagers that are proving less beneficial in some ways, requested CEC to look into this matter.
Shara villagers also requested for a solution of drinking water problem to which Exn PHE Tashi putting stress on hand-pumps assured them about the same. CEC also gave directions to I&FC to construct canals for the benefit during the on-going cultivation season.
On the request to speed-up the up-gradation process of High School Shara to Higher Secondary recently sanctioned, CEC made the villagers understand the fact that it is important to have complete infrastructure and post creations after which a school would be in a position to function to its best.
CEC also heard the grievances of Upshi and Tuna villages and assured of redress of the issues in phase manner.
The villages of Gya, Meeru, Sasoma and Rumtse demanded for installation of Mobile tower in their valley, strengthening of electric poles and lines for smooth supply of electricity and providing of reliable drinking water facility
At Gya village CEC handed over cheques to the 21 families amounting a total of rupees around one lacs on account of crop damage due to last year flash flood in Gya Nallah from CEC Relief Fund. Updating about the extent of damages during the last year flood in Gya, the people demanded for channelization of their Nallah as their Nallah always receives huge volume of water during summer season and strengthening of some irrigation canals.
Responding to the demands, CEC directed Exn. I&FC to restore the irrigation canals so that farmers could sow their fields timely and for channelization of Gya Nallah he said that huge amount of funds for nallah training is required, however he directed concerned department to prepare a project.
