State Congress pays rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi

Jammu, May 21 (Scoop News)-Rich tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 24th Death Anniversary today. The main function was held here at JK Resorts-Marble Market Jammu. A Blood Donation Camp was also organized at the venue, in which a large number of people donated blood.

The function was presided over by the Senior Vice President PCC Shri Sham Lal Sharma and attended by CLP leader Shri N. Rigzin Zora; Former MP Shri Madan Lal Sharma; Vice Presidents PCC Shri Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Smt. Kanta Bhan; General Secretaries PCC, Co-Treasurer PCC Rajnish Sharma, Shah Mohammad Choudhary, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Yogesh Sawhney, Sdr. Manjit Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Th. Manmohan Singh, Namrata Sharma; Choudhary Akram (MLA); Smt. Indu Pawar-President Mahila Congress; Anil Chopra-President DCC Jammu (U); Pranav Shagotra-President PYC, Balwinder Singh Sambyal-Chief Organisor Congress Seva Dal; Smt. Swran Lata, Shri Kuldip Raj Verma, Girdhari Lal Chalotra, Th. Shiv Dev Singh, Prakash Sharma-President DCC Samba; Krishan Chander Bhagat; Aslam Goni; Hari Singh Chib; Secretaries PCC Shamsher Singh Chib, Smt. Rajni Bala, Neeraj Gupta, Jagdish Dogra, Thomas Khokhar, Pawan Singh, Sdr. Manjit Singh Jatt, Smt. Arardhana Andotra, Satish Sharma (PYC) and several other leaders of the party.

The speakers recalled the supreme sacrifice of Late Rajiv Gandhi for the unity and integrity of the country. He was assassinated on this day at a young age and the country was deprived of a dynamic leader. He was architect of the 21st century India who brought the revolution in the field of Information Technology. Today India is leader in computer and IT in the World due to the vision of Rajiv Gandhi.

The leaders described Shri Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of Panchayat Raj System in the Country. He fulfilled the dreams of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi to devolve powers of planning and development to the grass root institutions of democracy, so that the people shape their own destiny as per their needs. The 73rd & 74th amendments of the Constitution was the result of the vision and efforts of late Rajiv Gandhi, which has brought power at the doorstep of the people.

Shri Rajiv Gandhi lowered the voting age from 21 years to 18 years in order to ensure the youth of the country also participate in the electoral systems and take lead in politics to serve the nation with young ideas.

He adopted the policy of dialogue to sort out various issues confronting the nation in different parts and succeeded in bringing peace and restoring faith of different shades in democracy. He contributed to the best to the maintenance peace and harmony in the country and worked for World peace. He laid down his life for the unity and integrity of the country, the senior leaders said.
