Pathania stresses for economic, social empowerment of women

Jammu,April 24 (Scoop News)-RS Pathania, MLA Ramanagr has stressed for the economic and social empowerment of women in the society and character building among the students for the brighter future of the state and country.
Pathania was speaking at one day seminar on Women Empowerment in India: Challenges and Social Constraints organized by Department of Sociology Ramnagar Campus, University of Jammu during the Annual Day Celebrations by Govt Degree College Ramnagar, where he was the Chief-Guest on the occasion.
Pathania in his address stated that the status of women in India have changed over the times saying in the Vedic period women enjoyed equality with men but in the medieval period it started declining and in the modern period women are facing the different atrocities in daily life.
He stressed on the economic, social and political empowerment of women in India and especially the rural women. He encouraged the women to have access of the different schemes and policy of women empowerment.
He asked the management of Degree College Ramnanagr to focus on the need to create more supports facilities, additional class rooms and net facility for cricketers and character building among students.
Pathania appreciated the college management and the students for their good work and sought their help for laying foundation of a Young Ramnagar.
He said that they must lay stress on building a strong character among the students who were going to be the future of the nation adding good character results in good administrators.
The students were all praise for their MLA for his selfless work particularly for his sterling performance on the floor of the House.
He also assured them of all help for upgrading the facilities in the college and the campus.
Pathania was given a rousing welcome by the management and students of the college where he also distributed prizes among the winners.
Earlier Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Head, Department of Home Science and Dean, Faculty of Sciences, University of Jammu and Prof. Abha Chauhan, Head, Department of Sociology, University of Jammu were the main speakers during the seminar and enlightened the students.
Prof. Rajni Kant, Director, Ramnagar Campus and Chief-Coordinator Off-site Campuses, University of Jammu presented formal welcome address.
In his address he highlighted the women of today in India are excelling in the different fields of society. He stressed that the significant role of women cannot be denied in society which constitute 50% of the society. He also appreciated the BEETI PADAO BEETI BACCHAO campaign for encouraging girls for education. He said that in contemporary society is moving towards equal opportunities for equal sexes. Professor Rajni Kant brought it to the notice of Local MLA about the paucity of funds which are hampering the ongoing construction activity of Ramnagar Campus at Dalsar.
He also requested R. S. Pathania to take up the issue pertaining to funding of the Campuses to the relevant quarters in the assembly so that the ongoing activity is not hampered and the off-site campuses start functioning at the earliest possible.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Rajni Dhingra spoke on Empowering Women: Focussing on Gender Socialisation. She argued that gender discrimination exist in Indian society because of gender role socialization. Prof. Abha Chauhan highlighted that there are stereotypes and orthodox mind set existing in society which discriminates women. She argued that the patriarchial structure of society is responsible for female subordination. Shreeya Bakshi, Faculty, Sociology, coordinated the programme. Ajay Kumar, Faculty, Sociology presented formal vote of thanks in inaugural session. Miss Monica, faculty MCA, presented vote of thanks in the second technical session.
Other faculty members who were present on the occasion were Vinod, Aditya, Abhimanyu, Prakriti, Sonia, Rajni, Meenakshi, Himani. Principal GDC, Ramnagar Prof. Kusum Gupta and other faculty members of Ramnagar College attended the seminar.
