Jammu, April 24, (Scoop News)-Mufti Sayeed' s bluff has been called, was forced to slap PSA on Masrat Alam and made to shift him in the dark of the night to Kot Bakwal jail in Jammu , so much for his much talked about battle of ideas, alleged Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Rigzin Jora.
"Understandably , there is all round condemnations - from the separatist, mainstream politicians as well as from the civil society of the valley", he said adding, "this was bound to happen", he said in press statement issued in the winter capital on Friday.
In trying to cast himself in the role of a statesman , Mufti Sayeed ended up biting more than he could chew ,CLP leader felt and said "he forgets that he has tied the knot , not with Vajpayee , but with Narinder Modi , whose image is that of an intolerant hardliner".
Jora said to expect that image to undergo a complete turnaround in 10 months, was too much to expect, even if the Prime Minister did try for an image makeover - remember the s.n invite to Nawaz Sharif - his core constituency within the BJP will not allow that easily , as seen in his calling off the foreign secretary level talks .
"As such, Mufti Sayeed's game-plan has come unstuck:, he said adding "what has aided to make matters worse, is his own impatience".
In trying to project himself as one of them and thereby enhance his government's acceptability, he raised expectations so high that it was impossible to deliver on those, Jora said.
The coalition with the right wing Hindutva party did not help matters. Trouble with Mufti Sayeed, is that he tries to be everything to everybody - with the Hurriyat and the militants , he is a soft separatist, with Nagpur he has an "alliance of conviction " , CLP leader alleged .
While the actual fact is : he is nothing to nobody , and is for himself and his 6 years of Chief Ministership . Hence, disappointments s.n all around - separatists cannot trust him any longer , Nagpur finds him too willy, Jora pointed out.
He said the comings months will be a war of nerves for Mufti Sayeed : one the one hand with the Hurriyat and the separatist, one the other with his own s.n coalition partners with whom he is on a constant tug-of-war.
Chances of Mufti Sayeed trying to pull out another rabbit out of his hat cannot be ruled out , being the past master at the game, CLP leader felt.
Jora said n fact the word is already out, Ram Jethmalani and Madhu Kishwar , whom Mufti Sayeed is believed to have dined with on a number of occasions in the past, are planing s.n a visit shortly under the guise of Kashmir Committee for a track II diplomacy .
Whether Mufti Sayeed manages to make the separatist bite the bait , and buys peace for his government , is yet to be seen he wondered.
