One sports complex to be constructed at every block: Ansari
32 new play fields completed upto March
Jammu, April 24 (Scoop News)- Maintaining that the Government is committed to ensure the augmentation of the sports infrastructure, the Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari has said that by doing so the youth will be given ample opportunities to channelize their talent and excel in various sports streams.
The Minister was addressing officers during the review meeting of Youth Services and Sports Department.
Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Aggarwal and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
“One block level sports complex comprising indoor and outdoor sports hall will be developed in each block and 143 panchayat blocks of the state will be covered over a period of 5 years”, he said and added that 300 kanals of land has been acquired for construction of buildings for government physical education college at Gadroora-Ganderbal coming up with an estimated cost of Rs. 30.39 crore out of which Rs. 18.75 crore has been advanced to JKPCC.
The Minister said that the sports is an important activity by which the latent talent of the younger generation can be channalized in a proper and meaningful manner as it also in-calculates a sense of discipline in them. He said that sports infrastructure would be augmented in a big way so that the younger generation gets ample opportunities to hone their sports skills and compete at various national and international events and bring laurels to their state.
Ansari said that several tournaments as well as championships of national and international levels would be organized in near future so that the sports persons get the requisite exposure. He said that by doing so they would also get the opportunity to interact with the players of repute and learn from their experiences .
He asked the officers to ensure proper implementation of various schemes introduced for giving fillip to the sports activities and improving the overall scenario of sports in the state.
It was given out in the meeting that the department is intending to introduce physical education as a compulsory stream from 6th to 8th standard from 2015-16. Similarly, it would be introduced from 9th to 10th standard from 2016-17.
The meeting was also told that during 2014-15, 63 schemes for the development of play fields were taken up out of which 32 were completed upto March 2015.
