Daylong Transfer of Technology (Farmers’ Day) held at Pampore
Srinagar,March 28 (Scoop News)- In order to reach out to saffron growing farmers and transfer technology to the farmers, a daylong transfer of technology (farmers’ day) was held at EDI Pampore today. The day was inaugurated by the Director Agriculture Kashmir in presence of Additional District Development Commissioner Pulwama on this occasion Joint Director Agriculture Extension Joint Director Agriculture Engineering from SKUAST-K, Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama and other District and Sub Divisional Officers were present. Around 200 farmers attended the farmers’ day function.
Director Agriculture Kashmir informed the participants that 3200 hectares has been brought under Saffron Mission in District Pulwama in which 1449 hectares has been rejuvenated till date and 128 ha have been rejuvenated during current year, for which an amount of Rs. 646.92 lakhs have been disbursed. On this occasion twenty cheques worth Rs. 8, 26,406/- where distributed among the beneficiaries, who have rejuvenated their fields according to the guidelines.
On this occasion saffron experts advised the farmers to adopt the technology to the optimum level, so as to increase the quality and quantity of saffron. He made the farmers aware that proper corn size, weed management, IPM & INM measures and irrigation at proper time can only increase the production of saffron. Joint Director Agriculture Extension stressed the growers to cover their crop under the insurance, for which 1000 ha have been earmarked in the first instance in Pulwama District. Joint Director Agriculture Engineering hailed the efforts of the department and stressed upon the farmers for proper weed management. Representatives of saffron growers pinpointed problems faced by the growers for settlement of Khasra Numbers and commissioning of irrigation facilities under saffron mission. Director Agriculture Kashmir and Additional District Development Commissioner Pulwama assured the farmers to redress their problems of irrigation and settlement of Khasra Numbers as soon as possible.
