Governor directs Div Com to review flood situation and breach of Jhelum bundh
Jammu, February 26, (Scoop News) - The Governor, N.N. Vohra, today directed Rohit Kansal Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to personally visit the various areas in the town to see the flood situation and also Kursoo, Raj Bagh, to physically inspect the site of the reported breach on the Jhelum bundh where the incessant rains have led to sloughing.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Superintending Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control and other concerned officers visited Kursoo, Raj Bagh and physically inspected the area of Jhelum bundh which is reported to be breached.
In his report the Divisional Commissioner has informed the Governor that as a result of incessant rains and the waste water from the nearby residential area, sloughing took place at the said site which resulted in a portion of the river bank getting eroded.
Divisional Commissioner has informed that the Irrigation & Flood Control Department has already taken up the restoration work and is treating the affected area with sand bags. During his spot visit today the Divisional Commissioner found that the work of restoration was in full swing.
The Governor has directed the Divisional Commissioner to personally monitor the situation arising due to incessant rains in all the low lying areas of the town and ensure against inconvenience being caused to the people. He has also directed the Flood Control Department to urgently ensure the effective proper protection of the river bund and the flood channels.
