DGP discusses New Sports Policy
Jammu, February 26, (Scoop News)- Detailed deliberation with regard to the much awaited New Sports Policy for JKP was held at a meeting of Police Sports Promotion Board at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. The meeting was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar.
Addressing the meeting, Rajendra disclosed that the new policy aims to promote sports in the Organization and bring changes in the sports arena of the Organization, when adopted. He said that JKP has been focusing on promoting sports culture within and outside the organization and has cultivated talent in various disciplines.
“Our sports personnel have excelled at National and International levels. Their performance in sports arena has made the organization proud”, Rajendra said.
During the meeting various issues related to the promotion of sports in the Organization including budget, infrastructure requirements, play grounds, incentives for outstanding sportsmen and recruitment of sports person under SRO-349 were discussed.
Rajendra emphasized for a comprehensive policy to encourage the sports person, who excel at national and international level. He also asked for introducing incentives to motivate sportsmen and coaches for their recruitment in the Organization under the new policy.
The salient features of new policy including enhancing sports infrastructure, introduction of special training courses, recruitment of outstanding sports persons and coaches in different ranks came under discussion.
The new policy focuses on establishing hi-tech gyms with latest machinery and physiotherapy centers, multipurpose halls with modern dimensions to promote indoor games like boxing, basketball, kabbady, wushu and judo, indoor and outdoor firing ranges at Srinagar and Jammu. It also stresses for latest equipments approved by Federations of Sports, kits to sports personnel after every two years, raising sports infrastructure in police public schools at twin capital cities and deployment of central sports coaches for imparting training to the students for their further induction in police central teams. The students participating in the training courses would be provided sports kits and stipend on the same analogy as sports authority of India, the policy adds.
Likewise reservation for direct appointment of outstanding sports persons up to the rank of Inspector, based on merit and qualification, direct recruitment for outstanding sports personnel as constables, who excelled at national and international events and open recruitment of SPOs under sports category as and when observed during any state and national level competitions. It provides for recruitment of outstanding coaches in different sports events, fitness trainers and support staff for all teams. Allowances for the outstanding players, who secure medals or participate in the official international championship on the same analogy as central police organizations, would be an important feature of the policy.
ADGP (Armed), S. M. Sahai, apprised the meeting about various features included in the new sports policy for promoting sports cultural in the Organization. He also briefed about present status of infrastructure in the Organization.
Rajendra appreciated the efforts and interest of ADGP armed and other Board members for drafting the new sports policy. He said that the policy was a requirement to strengthen sports infrastructure and promote sports within the organization. He asked to undertake the sports activities throughout the year in different disciplines. He said that a central cricket and snow ski teams would be formed under the new policy.
The meeting was attended by ADsGP, SP Vaid and VK Singh, IsGP, Dr. B Srinivas, AK Choudhary, HK Lohia, Deepak Kumar, SJM Geelani, MS Salaria, MA Khan, Rajesh Kumar, Mukesh Singh, Danish Rana and SL Sharma, AIsGP, Sheikh Junaid Mahmood, Rajeshwar Singh, Tahir Sajjad and Kulbir Singh and other members of the Board.
