Tarigami demands medicines, vaccines, masks to combat Swine Flu
‘Administration has confined itself only to announcements’
Jammu, February 25, (Scoop News)- Reiterating his call for speedy response to control the fast spreading H1N1 virus in Jammu and Kashmir, CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Elect Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said it seems the administration is passing the buck and has confined itself to announcements that are bereft of any concrete action on the ground.

In a statement issued here, Tarigami took a strong exception to the lackluster approach of the health authorities who have sofar failed to equip and arrange the hospitals in the state with the requisite infrastructure and the medicines especially the recommended vaccines.

“Not to talk of the requisite medicines, the hospitals in the State are even without the supply of masks to equip its own staff,” Tarigami remarked, adding that the health authorities have not only aggravated the situation for the people but has put the hospital staff in peril.

“There are only few hospitals in the state where the isolation wards have been dedicated for the swine flu patients and rest of the hospitals are yet to take a call on this precarious issue,” the MLA Elect said adding that a lot needs to be done in order to prevent and control the spread of the disease.
Expressing deep concern over the mounting number of swine flu affected people and the deaths caused due to this disease, Tarigami urged the central government to ensure adequate supply of medicines and the testing facilities in order to prevent casualties in the State.

“No doubt people are supposed to be extra cautious and take all preventive measures to protect themselves against this disease, but the approach of the authorities in handling the situation is pathetic and disappointing.”
Tarigami also appealed the Honb’le Governor N.N Vohra to order for a vigorous awareness campaign in public against the spread of this fatal disease which has created a panicky in the entire state. “Even many doctors are reported to have been affected by this contagious disease and in such a situation; people are genuinely concerned and angry about the inaction on part of the people at the helm of affairs. There should be no delay in facilitating adequate supplies of medicines, vaccines and masks in the hospitals across the state so that the disease is controlled to the maximum,” he added.
