NDMA team to assess the situation of Phuktal river blockage
Div Com directs administration to remain vigilant
Leh,January 29, (Scoop News)-The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Rohit Kansal today convened a meeting at Leh to review the present situation of the blockage of Phuktal River in Kargil district due to heavy landslide.


IGP Kashmir, A.G.Mir, Executive Councilor, Zanskar Affair, LAHDC Kargil, Skalzang Wangail, Deputy Commissioner, Leh-Simrandep Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Mohammed Sadiq Shiek, ADC Kargil, SE PWD, Kargil and other senior officers were present in the meeting.


The Divisional Commissioner inquired about the physical status of the river blockage and preventive measures to be taken to avoid any of lose to life and property.


Deputy Commissioner Kargil gave a detailed report on the present situation of the blocked Phuktal River and about the preparatory measures set in motion. He informed that in case of sudden bursting of the stored water from the artificial lake formed in Phuktal River a total of 29 villages in Kargil district will get affected. He added that rehabilitation plan for these 29 villages has already prepared and the Chief Medical Officer of Kargil has been directed to keep medical teams with enough medicine, equipment and emergency medical kits ready as contingency plan.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil informed that five residents of Marshan village which is the nearest habitat from the blocked point have already been shifted to safer places. He said that as per the recee conducted by the administration no manual work is possible on the blocked river site and there is no landing ground for the helicopter near it.
The Divisional Commissioner said that all the reports submitted by Deputy Commissioner and the Executive Councillor of Kargil have already been submitted to National Disaster Management Authority of India and a team of NDMA will soon visit the area to assess the situation. The Divisional Commissioner directed Deputy Commissioner Kargil and Leh to remain vigilant with contingency plans to avoid any loss of life and property.
