Fire and fury corps celebrates “vijay diwas” at Leh (Ladakh)

Leh ,December 16, (Scoop News)- On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, a memorial service was organised at Leh War Memorial by the Fire and Fury Corps to commemorate the victory of Indian Armed Forces against Pakistan in 1971 Operations and pay homage to our brave Martyrs. During the 1971 war, Ladakh Scouts had played a pivotal role in the liberation of 804 square kilometer of area in Turtuk and Tyakshi under the indomitable leadership of Colonel Chewang Rinchen. The wreath laying ceremony at the Leh War Memorial was followed by felicitation of War Veterans and Veer Naries. Similar functions were held at Kargil, Bimbat, Shyok, Rezang La and Siachen War Memorials in the Fire and Fury Corps to commemorate Vijay Diwas and pay tribute to our brave Martyrs.

At Leh, a total of 35 Veterans of 1971 war, 16 Veer Naries, 122 Ex-Servicemen and 05 War Heroes attended the function. The ceremony commenced with laying of wreath by the junior most Recruit of Ladakh Scouts followed by senior officers of all Arms and Services, Veterans, Veer Naries and civil dignitaries. Wreaths were also laid by the Deputy Commissioner, Leh Shri Simrandeep Singh (IAS) and Chief Executive Councillor, Leh Shri Rigzin Spalbar.

The Chief of Staff, Fire and Fury Corps addressed the gathering at Rinchen Auditorium and facilitated the Veterans of 1971 war. The event culminated with a tea party where the Veterans interacted with senior officers of the Fire and Fury Corps.
