Mughal Road jugular vein between two regions of State: Wani | | Srinagar, October 20, (Scoop News)- Terming Mughal Road as jugular vein between the two regions of the State, Minister for Roads & Building, 20 Abdul Majid Wani today said that the prestigious and historic project had became the reality only due to liberal funding from the Government of India and especially its approval to full funding under Prime Minster Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) at an estimated cost of Rs. 63985 crore during the regime of UPA-Ist & IInd. He said that the project provides connectivity to Rajouri and Poonch District with Kashmir Valley, besides an alternative link to NH1A connecting Kashmir with rest of the Country. The Minister said that the Mughal Road due to its high altitude and hostile weather conditions provides connectivity only for six months (fair weather) and faces disruption during winter months from November to April. He said that the State Government has already approached the centre for funding to construct a tunnel on the Mughal road at the Peer Ki Gali. The proposed tunnel of approximate 8 kilometers length would reduce the road length by 12 kilometers and make the road safe and all weather, for which the R&B Department, he added. The Minister added that he has, time and again, made fervent appeal for considering and approving this vital project for the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest. It is pertinent to mention here that consequent upon the inspection of the Mughal Road Project by Member, Planning Commission of India 20 B. K. Chaturvedi, on July 23rd, 2013 along with the officers of the State Government, has already recommended construction of tunnel on the road and the State Government had forwarded a copy of the DPR to the Planning Commission of India. Further during its inspection by the 3rd Party consultants constituted by the Planning Commission of India, it was recommended that construction of a tunnel is immensely required for making the road all weather and economically viable. ... |
