PoK Refugees' Sammaan samaroh at Resham Ghar


Jammu ,October 19, (Scoop News)- The Sammaan Smaroh was organized today by PoK refugees residing in Resham Ghar Colony to celebrate & salute Rajiv Chuni Chairman S. O. S. International - An Organization for Displaced Persons from PoK for his selfless & long struggle. Huge gathering was present in the Ambedhkar Park and people in large number queued up to greet and garland Rajiv Chuni for his successful struggle as regards to the community.

At the start of the function, Krishan Lal Lakha Sr. community member garlanded and welcome Sh. Rajiv Chuni for consenting to participate in the proceedings.

S. Balbir Singh appreciated the efforts of Rajiv Chuni for leading the struggle up to its logic conclusions.

S. Gurmeet Singh shared and appreciated S. O. S. Internationals’ tireless efforts for achieving such results. People had lost confidence n this long struggle but the results, according to Gurmeet Singh had imposed confidence in the leader-ship of S. O. S. International.

Rajiv Chuni thanked the participants and elaborated that the achievement is not of any single person or an organization but of the whole community of 12 lacks PoK Displaced Persons. He further explained the highlights of the achievements which are as under.

I. State Govt. passed compensation of Rs. 25- lacs to effected families in addition to the following benefits.
II. Preference quota of 2% will be given in Professional and technical colleges in all over India basis.
III. Employment Package in Belt forces including BSF, CRPF, ITBP & CISF exclusively for Displaced PoK meritorious youth.

“This should have happened 60 years ago in 1954, when the then Cabinet accorded temporary rehabilitation to his community”, said Mr. Chuni and that the leadership afterwards, remained aloof from the issue and the people, though they exploited the sentiment and the situation on the occasions of Assembly or Parliamentary elections, to woo the innocent and mostly illiterate voters in their favour, but did nothing to support the cause of their sustenance all these years. However, the consistent pursuance and the struggle on ground by S. O. S. International today yielded results in favour of 12 lac members of the community, when government understood that the organization is not ready to accept less than this package. He said had our brethren reposed confidence in us and supported the movement, maybe we would have achieved this goal long back.

“The struggle is not over, there are other issues confronting the community, for which “we have to continue our struggle to make the Governments in J&K and Delhi to behave in a justified and dignified manner with us, otherwise, we will not hesitate in launching full fledged agitation in support of our demands till we get the final justice”
Mr. Chuni continuously praised the Government for the decision, but said, ”They have done it now, they could have done this much earlier, so as the generation which originally got displaced, could have enjoyed the fruit, but they were forced to die in desperation in absolute poverty and miseries, and it is now the third generation which has to reap the benefit on behalf their parents & grandparents” “This is a fair example of justice delayed equals justice denied”. There are a few survivors in the community who however have lost their scenes of understanding the outcome of their struggle started 60 years back, Chuni added further.

Mr. Chuni further shared his views that in spite of above agreed settlement our further focus is on our constitutional Rights. We want Displaced Persons Development Board should be established. Our quota of Assembly seats be restored.

Mr. Chuni called upon the community to ignore the non relevant parties and unite for further struggle. He also appealed to all the political parties not to take mileage of the settlement but to cooperate for release of all the agreed benefits to PoK refugees at the earliest.
