Cultural Academy organizes on spot lecture competition at Leh

Leh, October 15, (Scoop News)- With an aim to infuse speaking skill in local language among the younger generations, the J&K Cultural Academy Leh with the financial support of Gelong Lobzang Nyantak, Councilor Upper-Leh organized an “ on spot lecture competition” today at Leh under the banner “Ladakh Youth Conference on Ladakhi Language” in which 28 students from different Govt. and private schools from Sakti to Saspol participated.

Gelong Nyantak Councilor Upper Leh was the chief guest on the occasion and among those attended the event include Councilor Phyang Tsering Sonam, Abdul Gani Sheikh, Dr. Jamyang Gyalson, Khanpo Konchok Fanday, Gelong Thupstan Paldan, Mipham Otsal, Education Officer Sonam Dorjey and many other scholars and intellectuals as judges and observers of the competition.

Welcoming the guests and participants, the Special Officer for Culture, Tsewang Paljor underlined that the objective of the competition was to know the level of Bhoti education standard in the schools and to judge how far Ladakhi students are capable of speaking our own language.

In his speech Gelong Nyantak said that with the materialistic development and progress taking place in Ladakh, the promotion of language specially among the young Ladakhis is equality important in order to uphold the distinct identity of Ladakhis. Arrangement of funds for holding this event from his own pocket is a small contribution towards promotion of speaking talent in our own language among the younger generation, Gelong Nyantak said that adding that such competitions are very much needed today to keep our new generations rooted to our traditional and cultural values which at present seems to be lacking.

Stanzin Idgah of Mahabodhi Residential School secured 1st position in the competition receiving a cash award of Rs. 7,000 while as Tsewang Dolma of CIBS and Sonam Yangdon of Lamdon Model School, Leh bagged 2nd and 3rd position with cash prize of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively. Consolation prize of Rs.1,000 each also given to 5 other competitors.

Abdul Gani Sheikh, Dr. Janyang Gyalson, Khanpo Konchok Fanday and Sonam Dorjey, Education Officer also spoke on the occasion and highly appreciated the talent and effort of the students. The speakers in one voice praised Gelong Lobzang Nyantaks for his visionary initiative saying that this would prove a turning point for promotion of speaking skill among the younger generation.
