Process of de-watering, plugging breaches along Jhelum in full swing: CE,I&FC
Srinagar ,September 30, (Scoop News)-Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Kashmir, Mir Javed Jaffar has informed about the initiatives taken by the Department of Flood Control.
In a statement issued by the Chief Engineer, it has been stated that the Department issued necessary warning to the people who were facing the threat of floods from time to time to shift to the safer places. The department started activities of plugging the breaches and cuts along the river Jhelum on war footing, but the situation worsened due to constant rains and unprecedented rise in the water level. The Department did its best to control the situation, but the magnitude of water was unimaginable resulting into floods in the Srinagar city and other areas of the valley.
In the aftermath of floods, the department has put in place its available resources for dewatering the affected areas on war footing and the operation is still on. He said most of the waterlogged areas have been cleared and strenuous efforts are afoot to clear all areas from flood waters. He said the Department is working in close coordination with all concerned departments/agencies like Fire & Emergency Services, SMC etc in the process of dewatering the waterlogged areas. He also informed that the department has simultaneously started plugging the breaches on River Jhelum.
