PDP condoles demise of Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari

Srinagar, September 30, (Scoop News)- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deeply condoled the demise of veteran religious, spiritual and political leader, Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, who breathed his last on Tuesday.
In a statement, the party patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and president, Mehbooba Mufti termed the death of Molvi Sahib a great loss to the society. “Molvi Sahib was a versatile personality who will be always remembered for his impeccability and praise worthy services to the society,” they said.
The leaders said the deceased was not only a religious and spiritual leader of great repute but an outstanding political statesman as well. As a young scholar he had studied in Iraq and Iran and was man of words with an in-depth knowledge on varied subjects ranging from politics, history to religious philosophy, the leaders added. “With the demise of Molvi Sahib the state has lost a seasoned politician, outstanding Islamic scholar, wonderful orator and an outspoken advocate of unity,” they said.
Recalling his long association with the deceased, Mufti said Molvi Sahib has been a lifelong friend and associate who will be missed always.
Immediately on hearing the demise of Molvi Sahib, the party patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Begum Mufti Sayeed, the party president, Mehbooba Mufti; members of parliament, Muzzafar Hussain Baig and Tariq Hameed Karra, other legislators and senior leaders rushed to his residence to share the grief of family and the large number of Molvi Sahib’s followers.
Later Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the entire leadership of the party and workers in large numbers from all over the Valley participated in Molvi Sahib’s funeral procession and Jinaza which was conducted at Zadibal where Molvi Sahib was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard.
Coming from a distinguished family of religious scholars and spiritual personalities, Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari was currently the PDP’s senior vice-president and MLA representing Pattan constituency in Baramulla district in the legislative assembly. He started his political career in late 60’s and has served several times as MLA, MLC and has been a cabinet minister twice.
Molvi Sahib first became Member of Legislative Council in 1972 and later got elected to the state assembly in 1983. He was again elected in 1996, re-elected in 2002 and 2008. The demise of Molvi Sahib takes away a multidimensional personality from the state’s political, religious and social milieu. He will be missed by political colleagues, friends, fans and thousands of followers across the Kashmir valley and outside the state.
