Tara Chand reviews damages to education Infra | | Srinagar, September 29, (Scoop News)- To review the damages done to education infrastructure in the recent floods, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today called a high level meeting and discussed in detail various measures being undertaken to start regular school curriculum in flood hit areas. “The state has suffered huge losses in recent natural calamity and need of the hour is to immediately make alternate arrangements where ever there has been damages to the school buildings,” he said. Secretary, School Education Nirmal Sharma, Director School Education, Kashmir, Director, RMSA, CEO and other senior officers of the department attended the meeting. The meeting was informed about the damages incurred to the school buildings all across the province as well as in different parts of the state. It was informed that water has receded in certain areas but still some schools are under water. Calling for detailed assessment of damages to different schools, the Deputy Chief Minister said the school buildings have suffered massive damages and certain buildings have still not being completely dewatered, adding that necessary steps have to be initiated for early dewatering of the school buildings. He said a comprehensive report on status of the school buildings being fit to start operations has to be prepared and PWD authorities should be involved to report on fitness of the schools. “Those buildings which have been declared fit and safe by the PWD authorities should be used for schooling and no risk should be taken with human lives,” he added. Directing the executing agencies to speed up the dewatering and clean-up works, Tara Chand said men and machinery needs to be geared up for cleaning and making school buildings ready for routine schooling.
