Sham distributes relief among flood victims
‘Assures all help from Government’

Jammu,September 19, (Scoop News)-Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma on Friday visited Chowki Choura, Mera Mandria and other adjoining areas to assess the damages caused to public infrastructure, agriculture land, crop, roads and other infrastructure along the Jammu-Rajouri roads due to recent flash floods and heavy rains.
After assessing the loss of damages at Chowki Choura, Mera Mandria and its adjoining areas, the Minister interacted with the villagers and said Government is committed to provide all basic amenities to the flood affected people of the State, adding that there is no constraint of funds under State Disaster Response Fund. He said instructions have been issued to the Revenue Officers to pay their visit to flood hit area and assessed the losses of public and private infrastructure and submit the same for relief and Government norms.
Sharma said people of hilly and remote areas have faced lot of difficulties due to recent natural calamity, resulted public and private infrastructure are washed away and road connectivity cut off. He said that government efforts to provide financial assistance to the affected families under SDRF.
The Minister asked the accompanied officers to gear up their men and machinery in restoring the public infrastructure in the flood affected areas of the Chowki Choura and Mera Mandria and its adjoining areas so that the people do not face any inconvenience. He directed them to work in coordination in restoring the public utilities in their respective areas.
Sham asked the CAPDD to provide six month free ration to the flood affected families as okayed by the Government.
The SDMs apprised the Minister that all possible relief and rehabilitation measures are being done on war-footing in flood hit areas besides affected people are accommodated in safer place. He informed that in Chowki Choura, two persons lost their life and ten other injured due to flood while 1639 Kaccha and Pacca residential houses were damages in fully and partially. He further informed that 488 cattle sheds collapsed in the area. He said, the area received Rs. 95 lakh loss due to flash floods and heavy rains.
It was briefed to the Minister about the loss of agriculture land, paddy, maize crops as well as horticulture crop including roads, power, PHE, irrigation channels and protection walls of barsati nallahs.
Later, at Mera Mandria, the Minister interacted with the flood hit families and assessed losses caused due to flash floods and heavy rains in the area.
Sharma said that Government has taken all measures to provide all necessary help including relief of damage private infrastructure. He also received brief on the loss of various sectors including PHE, R&B, UEED, PDD and RDD.
The officers informed the Minister that 57 pacca houses fully and partially damaged in the area and 868 kaccha houses, 101 huts and 106 livestock died.
The Minister also distributed 180 cheques of relief worth Rs. 12.51 lakhs among the flood hit families of the Mera Mandria. He asked the Revenue Officers to distribute relief cheques to other panchayat families after assessment of losses personally without any delay.
Appreciating the efforts of Army, SDRF and NDRF those playing vital role in saving the human lives across the State.
A 2-minute silence was observed for eternal peace to the departed souls who died in recent heavy rains and flash floods.
Among others SE Hydraulic, Rajeev Malhotra, SDM, Tehsildar Chowki Choura, Executive Engineers, PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control, PWD and all sectoral officers, sarpanchs and panchs were also present on the occasion.
