Week –long Youth Day celebrations conclude at KU
JKSAPCS DSW, organize blood donation camp
Srinagar, August 20, (Scoop News)- Terming mental health as an important aspect for overall development of youth Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof AM Shah has said that engaging with youth at various levels is the foremost priority of the University.


While inaugurating the blood donation camp organized by Department of Students Welfare (DSW) KU in collaboration with J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (JKSAPCS) here on Wednesday Prof AM Shah said “It is the mission of the University to see how we can connect with youth of the state at various levels in the society. Though teaching and research are the main thrust areas at KU but engaging with youth by organizing such programs is also one of our top most priorities.”

Prof Shah while interacting with the blood donors on the occasion and distributing prizes amongst the winners of the poster, painting and slogan competitions which were held during the week-long Youth Day celebrations said that the main purpose of any education system should be enlightenment and “enlightenment of youth in terms of sound mental health is the bedrock of any educational policy.”
Speaking on the occasion Dr Mohan Singh Project Director J&K SAPCS said that by organizing such programs JKSAPCS is making an effort to reach out to the youth and help them to overcome their difficulties.
Dr Singh added that mental health is the focus area of a major policy initiative of JKSAPCS as the youth of today are beset with several problems and need immediate attention.
Earlier Dean Students Welfare KU Dr Neelofar Khan said that such activities shape the outlook of youth and inculcate a spirit of social –activism amongst them and at the same time help the institutions like the university to identify the talent of the youth and channelize it in the proper direction.
Cultural Officer DSW Shahid Ali Khan, Irfan Farooq and Rajesh Sharma Assistant Directors JKSAPCS coordinated the week-long program and blood donation camp.
In poster competition the first prize was won by Maria Fayaz whereas the second and third prize was bagged by Nowsheen Nazir and Mohammad Younis.
In painting competition the first prize was bagged by Nowsheen Nazir, whereas the second and third prize went to Zaid Mehraj and Waseem Bashir.
In slogan competition the first prize was won by Mohammad Irfan Bhat whereas the second and third prize was bagged by Maria Fayaz and Mohammad Younis.
