"Though they are retired, they are not tired",
Jaitley appeals corporate world to fulfil their social responibilities.

Udhampur (J&K),August 19,(Scoop News)_ Union Defence Minister, Arun Jaitley, has appealed to the corporate world to utilise the excellent trained manpower of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) to fulfil their corporate social responsibility programmes.

Addressing the Directorate General Resettlement, (DGR) Corporate Conclave – 2014 at Manekshaw Centre, on Tuesday, Jaitley said ESM constitute a huge resource of trained and disciplined manpower and for them commitment to duty is paramount.

The existing situation wherein, corporate sector needs men with such qualities and ESM need re-employment, ideally fits into the demand and\ supply principle of economics, which can be effectively tapped by the captains of industry and corporates.

Highlighting the immense contribution of Ex-Servicemen in the Defence
sector, he said, “though they are retired, they are not tired.” Society owes a great deal of debt and gratitude to this community.

Hinting towards India, Inc, he said, “it is very important that segment of society come forward and absorb these extremely talented and trained men into jobs”.

Hailing the signing of a MoU between the Directorate General Resettlement, and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), as a ‘historic step’, the Defence Minister urged the India Inc. to sincerely perform their corporate responsibility in right earnest.

The Chief of Air Staff and Chief of Staff Committee (COSC) Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha in his speech expressed the need to harness the core competencies of Ex-Servicemen and said the industry should utilize their sound exposure in diverse fields including IT, Avionics, automobile, security, electronics and electrical etc.

He pointed out that since the scope of the ESM in the Government sector is limited and private sector has potential to absorb them in large numbers, the time for the CII-DGR partnership has come to enrich the society in different fields.

President CII, Shri Ajay Sriram in his speech highlighted the key role of manufacturing sector in accelerating the nation’s overall growth and prosperity.

Pointing out the urgent need of bridging the skill gap, he said, CII would be happy to work with the Ministry of Defence and help Ex-Servicemen to reorient for the second innings either in the industry or as entrepreneurs. He hinted the keenness of the industry to hire talent from the Ex-Servicemen pool.

Among others, Director General CII Chandrajit Banerjee, Secretary Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare Ms Sangeeta Gairola and Director General Resettlement, Major General Amrik Singh addressed the gathering.

On this occasion, the Defence Minister Jaitley formally inaugurated the Twitter Account of the DGR.

The event was also attended by the Army Chief General Dalbir Singh and the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan.
