Go-Green-Go-Organic Campaign inaugurated by Rinpoche at Shachukul, Changthang

Leh,August 13 (Scoop News)-The 2nd phase of Go-Green-Go-Organic Campaign was inaugurated today by Chesang Rinpoche at Shachukul, Changthang accompanied by Nawang Jora, Minister Urban & Local Bodies and CEC, LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar and each planted a tree thus commencing the campaign. A grand function was organised at Shachukul Gonpa and among special guests were Togdan Rinpoche, Rangdol Nima Rinpoche, Tsamthul Rinpoche, Councilor Durbuk and Chuchul, Ex SDM, Nyoma and other govt. officials.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest on the occasion, Chesang Rinpoche congratulated the inhabitants of Lalok village for successfully running the Go-green-go-organic campaign in its first phase and expressed hope to continue it in its 2nd phase also. He stressed on preserving the ancestral occupation of agriculture and emphasised more on doing organic farming citing example of seabuckthorn which in itself is a medicinal plant.

Jora expressed his appreciation for the people of Lalok for their valuable contribution towards the society and future of Ladakh and highly praised them for their exemplary energy and work dedication of which the successful running of Tharuk Residential school is an good instance. He also appreciated the interest and participation shown by Rinpoches in such projects and other developmental activities. He gave assurance to post an SDM for newly created sub division of Durbuk at the earliest possible.

Speaking on the occasion, CEC stressed on the importance of sustainable development and said that the Go-green-Go-organic campaign is the foundational step towards it. He reiterated that LAHDC has a vision to attain sustainable development by preserving and promoting agriculture base occupation considering the uncertain nature of tourism, army and ration. He too appreciated the Rinpoches for making such projects successful with their conscious contribution.

Namgial Dorje, Councilor, Durbuk giving a brief about the project said that the aim of this project is to promote environmental activities of high desert eco-system and to bring economical prosperity to the people of Ladakh. He said that under the Go-green-Go organic campaign an estimate of 100 km of land is to be covered under plantation in Lalok area within a target period of 5 years.

Among the contributors in this campaign include Shachukul Gonpa, students Tharuk Residential School who have already planted around 10,000 trees in their school premise and eight namberdars of Lalok who today submitted a project draft to the Executive Dir., Mountain Institute, USA, Andrew Taber for further funding.

Togdan Rinpoche demanded to make the Durbuk sub division functional at the earliest to facilitate the people of the developmental works. Dr. Sharma, Programme Officer, Lakpa Sherpa, Member also spoke on the occasion.

On the occasion, Jora honoured Chesang Rinpoche by presenting the award announced by DIHAR during Kisan Jawan Mela for planting seabuckthorn along Shayok River in the first phase of this project in the month of March, 2014.
