Well begun Mr. Prime Minister!

By: Dr. Nirmal Kamal

It is only two and a half months that new government under stewardship of Narender Modi, took over the reins of the country and the people who ruled for decades have started speculating not only the performance and demanding account of 75 days’ functioning of NDA government but also accusing Government flaring polarization ..oops .Sonia ji..!..have little patience.

Imagine they are the people who under the garb of democracy continued to befool the countrymen with the policies they were aware will not benefit the teeming millions of the country but will only swell their accounts in foreign accounts, earn them abnormal sized (both vertical and horizontal) properties within the country besides what they could grab in the official capacity in the name of perks and privileges-palatial spatial bungalows in lutiyan Delhi and other places for themselves and their kith and kin, unaccounted security which otherwise was required for maintaining the law and order situation of the country and place them under the category of ‘most powerful, famous and rich” at international level.
Just imagine this junk of erstwhile rulers suppressed the voice of opposition (representing fairly good number) qualifying to be main opposition, by frequently making worst use of provision of ordinance route and now suddenly with meager number (44), reminding the ruling Government of significance of opposition under democratic system. They themselves never honored the voice of dissent inside and outside the Parliament neither understood the sufferings of the common man. Their misconceived attack (though meaningless) is being percolated among a section of Civil society also who lose no time in fanaticizing, ‘Acche din aane waale hain’ sarcastically when the parliament is yet to close its hectic and long monsoon budget session on 14th August.

To counter these flimsy negativeness, one should ardently appreciate that the Modi Government has taken certain effective drastic steps in right direction having positive impact and which also shows that this government means business. Right from 26th of May, PM began building relations with neighboring countries in line with “Neighbours First” that will recalibrate socio-economic and diplomatic ties eventually reducing security issues.
His visits to Bhutan and Nepal have extended a feel of belongingness required to build up security trust among the neighboring nations and peace at global level. PM has committed continued support to Bhutan for the all round prosperity of that region following the conventional approach of “live and let live”. Dithering Nepal required big brother’s extended friendly hand of India. Narender Modi did it after this Himalyan region remained abandoned by the previous Governments. Nepal appeared desperate for this occasion as India’s Prime Minister was given rousing welcome when PM of Nepal received Modi at the Airport personally and Modi addressed the Nepalese Parliament– an honor accorded very rarely. Indian PM was generous enough to announce financial assistance of 10,000 crore Nepalese rupees–all to strengthen bi-lateral ties between the two countries.
Meet at BRICS Conference applauded change of Government in India indicating need for healthy relations amongst the member nations. Setting up of New Development Bank which will be headed by an Indian as First Chairman with its headquarters in Shanghai was one significant outcome of PM’s visit at BRICS Conference. Several other significant decisions were taken in the BRICS Meet. And now World is awaiting curiously for the upcoming Modi-Obama meet in US– a turning point after much hatred ‘Abhiyaan’ spawn against Modi. Importantly US Secretary of State has endorsed the mantra of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” popularly given by PM Narendra Modi by saying that US also has the same ideology! Entire Nation expect India will regain her ‘Swabhimaan’. Misconceptions about Modi are on down the hills.

Iraq crisis affected India also when many Indians were held hostage inviting wrath from the media and the opposition during the initial days of change of the government. Admiringly, Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs with her relentless diplomatic timely efforts was able to revert the possible tragedy by bringing back 42 nurses in 48 hours which was undoubtedly a commendable task.
Back home, it is only about two and half months that foreign investors have taken U turn to invest in India. Most significantly, the meetings with Indian businessmen as foreign investors exhibit attitudinal change brought by PM. Finance Minister’s budgetary provisions gave authentic approval to foreign investments by allowing FDI upto 49% in defense and insurance sectors. Visionary Finance Minister kept this provision with twin objectives. Firstly since country since long has been procuring defense equipments from foreign countries, permitting FDI in defense upto 49% will boost manufacturing of defense equipments within the country mobilizing local resources- both men and material. Consequently, confidence of the domestic markets has improved as in 11 weeks, Sensex both Nifty and BSE, has shown positive trends. People of the country have appreciated the investment friendly reforms introduced in the budget by the Finance Minister.
Though very small but quite significant was the decision of the government which gave relief to common people who use to run from pillar to post to get their documents/affidavits attested. NDA government has allowed validating self attestation of the documents by the individuals. Earlier only government officials could do this task or the notary had to perform it. Now there is no need to run after government officers who at whims will reject or approve the applicant.

People are eagerly awaiting for drastic steps which could control inflation which hit the common man during UPA’s ten years rule. Virtually it was failure of the UPA to rein in inflation along with corruption which led the people revolt against UPA and preferred change of the government. NDA government under Narendra Modi’s leadership is committed to control prices the effect of which will soon be visible. The prices of essential commodities will come down once APMC wings are clipped.

Several other drastic steps to bring discipline in administration are taken by the Modi Government which are directed towards E-governance of which accountability, transparency and instilling of new work culture are worthy to mention. Modi government infact is talking less delivering more. The ground is set to bring ‘Acche Din’ only cooperation from public is required. Well begun Mr. Prime Minister.
