| State Disaster Management Plan to be prepared by Tata Institute of Social Science | | 
Srinagar, June 18 (Scoop News) –To frame the modalities for the preparation of state level disaster management plan, a daylong state level workshop was organised by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with the Revenue Department here today.
Finance Commissioner, Revenue, Arun Kumar while speaking on the occasion emphasized for proactive approach for designing disaster management plan for the State. Keeping in view the significance of disaster management besides vulnerability of the area to high wind velocity, land sliding and heavy snow fall, Dr. Kumar exhorted upon the stakeholders to share their responsibilities for finalisation of the frame work to develop the module for the disaster management. He also stressed for conducting capacity building programmes and collection of primary data throughout the state. He also urged for putting in efforts for micro planning to mitigate the concerns at the grass root level.
Pertinently MDMA in association with the Revenue Department has engaged Tata Institute of Social Science to develop the state disaster plan (SDMP) for the state.
Threadbare discussions were held for developing mechanism for disaster reduction plans, mock drills besides creating effective awareness among the people. Provisions of Educational Institutes, health care institutions, public transport and evacuation were also discussed.
It was given out during the deliberations that Disaster Management Centres shall be set up in every district of the State. Tata Consultancy of Social Sciences also gave PowerPoint presentation on the functioning of the emergency operation centres and utility of disaster management on the occasion.
Collection of date about vulnerability to national and manmade disasters across all the regions of the state was also taken care of during the workshop.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar on the occasion assured that all possible assistance shall be made available for preparation of Disaster Management Plan by the Divisional Administration and informed that 13 Seismo metres are being installed at different locations in the Valley.
Member, National Management Authority, Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad while addressing said that necessary building codes shall be strictly adhered to during infrastructure development especially in health and education sectors in the State. He also stressed for organizing awareness campus to acquaint the people residing in active seismic zone about the measures to be taken during disaster management.
Among others settlement Commissioner, Latief-u-Zaman Deva, Additional Director General of Police Home Guards Civil Defence and SDRF, Ms. D.R. Doly Barman Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Doda and Kishtwar, Director Ecology Environment and Remote Sensing, Director Metrology, Joint Secretary, NDMA, Consultants of TATA Institute of Social Sciences led by Professor T. Jayaraman and Dr. Balamurugan Guru besides officers of the State participated in the workshop.
