He while congratulating the delegates said that they were the first visitors to visit the newly opened Chantry Office of the Square Mile Project after its inauguration. He presented souvenir's to GGF members which included a solar charger for mobiles & laptops invented by the University's Research Department for Electronics & Renewable Energy. Manish Joshi, Coordinator, GGF Youth Wing J&K presented the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi to Mark Charlton & David Hollis along with Gandhi Soot & lapel badges of GGF. He in his address said that he was happy to learn that DMU is having a long standing record of works for the upliftment of the backward community through its unique Square Mile Project, the first of its kind in UK, where Youth is the driving force behind its noble mission. Mahatma Gandhi always believed in Community Development programs where the local communities come forward for the welfare of others. So today at this crossroad, he would like to link between the efforts of DMU & Mahatma Gandhi. Interestingly the tallest personality of 20th century Mahatma Gandhi& DMU both have their roots in the year 1869. Mahatma Gandhi was born in 1869 as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in India whereas DMU’s idea of origin is traced back in the same year as Leicester School of Art in UK. So it was his privilege to address in an institution which has a commonality with Gandhi Global Family & the sentiments of over one billion people in India. As we remember Mahatma Gandhi and recall his principles and ideals today, one question that crosses our mind is – how would Gandhiji have viewed the world of the 21st century? He wished De MontFort University every success in its continued endeavour to enlighten students community through their quality education & simultaneously widening their knowledge, horizon by engaging them in community development & leadership development programs for the betterment of society. He said as a GGF Young Gandhian, he takes pride in requesting De MontFort University to encourage students in UK & India to internalize the timeless importance of Gandhian thoughts and values in their daily lives. He congratulated Prof Dominic Shellard Vice Chancellor De MontFort University for initializing Square Mile project in Leicester city. He said Gandhi Global Family under the able leadership of its President Jenab Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare & its Vice-President Padamshree S.P Varma extends its hand as a partner to strengthen this city wide-project into a global wide movement.
