| Decades after independence, Malikote(Reasi) still in the dark | | Editor,
Scoop News,
Sir
We the residents of village Malikote Teshil Mahore district Reasi have been deprived of electricity for more than six decades after independence.
We are in demonstration against government not providing electricity to this area having population of more then 3000 souls. Even after 64 years of independence these hapless and neglected villagers are waiting for electricity of the area Malikote village. The village falls in the constituency of minister for higher education Abdul Ghani Malik from national conference. These villagers requesting administration to solve their problem of electricity. Villagers demands special funds for power connectivity.
Living in darkness has had huge ramifications in all aspects of the villagers lives. Ashwani had to wait for nearly five to six years to get a bride. Girls would refuse to marry young, eligible bachelors when they heard that the village had no electricity.
"For us, finding a bride was always difficult. The moment people heard our problem we were turned down," said Ashwani. He then found Arti who had spent her entire life in a city like Katra where she never knew what darkness was.
For Arti, it was especially challenging to cook in the dark. Incidentally, most of the women married to men in this village are from places where they never had to live in perpetual darkness.
Thank You
