Women have dented and projected their social-image in myriad ways in all the walks of life. Woman is a home-maker, teacher, friend, social worker, authority, politician, celebrity, corporate and spiritual leader.
Home-maker: Woman is a mother. Man feels her caring, affectionate love while he is being cuddled in the arms of the mother. Woman is also a spouse. Man feels her exciting love while making love to her. The future of mankind lies in the womb of the woman, because of which life goes on. Women are still cooking for their families, trying to save the hard earned pennies of their husbands and looking after their children.
Teacher: Women play an important role in the character development of kids, as the very first influencers are teachers who not only teach kids how to read and write but also to understand morals on which the laws are based, to become law-abiding citizens when they grow up and major. Sex education has become important today as it is necessary to make the kids aware of the sexual advances and assaults by perverts in the society.
Friend: Woman can be a best friend. Man feels her warmth and friendship while communicating and interacting with her at school, college, workplace and in the neighbourhood. Women have guided mankind intellectually as great writers and thinkers. Women are sympathetic beings able to understand the suffering and pain of others.
Social worker: Social service has been a field where large number of women have contributed their mite selflessly in the service of mankind, which needs to be commended by one and all, around the whole world. Nursing is a field where women are serving the sick in every nursing home and hospital. Large number of women have qualified as doctors and surgeons and are bringing relief to the sick and those suffering from medical ailments. This has earned a place of honour and respect for women in the society.
Celebrity: Mass media has projected the image of woman as a sensous, sophisticated, silky and sentimental model or actress or dancer or singer. Films have also portrayed the image of woman as a sex-toy, dancing item-girl and a heroine. Advertisements have shown woman as a horny, hi-fi, slim-waisted, tummy-tucked, mesmerising model with slim, sexy and silky long legs, walk down the catwalk with bouncing breasts and busted backside. Sports is no longer a male domain. Several sportstars have earned fabulous fame internationally in the fields of sports. Women have reached outer space and have challenged all the peaks of this world. Women have braved the horrors of war and are still active in the armed forces today. The celebrities are shaping the destiny of the nations including women who are influential struggling to uphold ethics and principles and to safeguard morals and social values to prevent society from going to the wolves. Increasing number of divorces in the whole world bear witness to the influence of celebrities on the society. The youth are being swayed into addictions, women are seen smoking and drinking in pubs and bars. Premarital and extramarital sex has become the order of the day. Live-in relationships are being tried as an alternative to mangalsutra.
Politician: Brave hearted women have led revolutions and uprisings against wrong-doers and criminals in the past and present. Politics is a game of game-changers. Politicians play different cards at different times to pooh-pooh the public in a democracy. Today the burning issues are land acquisition, drought, inflation, corruption and crime against women. Women are bearing the brunt of the criminals as they are soft targets unable to fight back. Power and money has corrupted many who are involved in scams and scandals. Politicians have become crorepatis while the poor are struggling to survive the harsh realities of modern life with their pennies. Women have played a stellar role in moving the masses right from the time of the struggle for independence till today. Today women are active at the village, town, city, state and parliamentary level politics. Women are also an integral part of the Indian Administrative Services even at senior-most levels. Every political party has large number of women candidates contesting elections.
Corporate leader: Women are indispensable in the corporate world, right from the reception to the Boardroom. The influence of women is seen and felt in all the corporate nooks and corners. Women are managing the affairs of the corporate world and even started their own ventures successfully, employing the services of talented men. Today there are women at the top levels in all the industries. Inflation is taking its toll on the inefficiently managed organisations, which are unable to control costs. Women have learnt how to make two ends meet with limited incomes. Competition has taken the steam out of my organisations unable to change for the better with changing times. Women have changed with times and the changing lifestyles, They are flexible being able to minimise outgoings and maximise incomes. The show must go on no matter what.
Spiritual leader: Woman has emerged as swaminis, brahmakumaris or sisters serving God through the service of mankind, especially the poor and the downtrodden.
Women are no longer the movable property of men. The bonded bridal relationship is now giving in to a cordial companionship, based on mutual self-esteem. Women want freedom and respect in the society on a par with men. Education and talents have ensured women the liberties and financial security, while becoming useful members of the society in a number of ways.
Women is not just a reproductive being, bearing children every year. The economic exigencies and political pressures are compelling governments to control population explosion which has assumed alarming proportions. Education is guiding women to realise their potential in tapering the population, while it is the responsibility of the government and the society to provide healthcare to women and childcare for the newborn babies. Gone are the days when children were born like strays. Today a child is a VIP who needs to be treated with care and guidance. Education goes on for almost the first 25 years of the life of every individual to become fit for any job.
Today, women have become beauty and health conscious. They know the importance on cutting down on cholesterol and nutrition boosts to fight free radicals and toxins inviting diseases and organ failures. Education has made women independent. Mankind cannot do with a woman and hence the foeticide of girls in the womb is highly inhuman. Rape is deplorable and has to be condemned publicly. Woman is an important member of the family and not just a dowry liability. Today woman is much more than a “house-wife” or a “housemaid”.
