CEC Attends Launch Ceremony of “Whispers of Ladakh” by Kacho Jaffer Ali Khan


Kargil, Ladakh,December 06 (Scoop News)- The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today attended the launch ceremony of the book “Whispers of Ladakh”, authored and illustrated by Kacho Jaffer Ali Khan, as the Chief Guest at the Tourism Facilitation Centre (TFC), Biamathang, Kargil.

The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Haji Mohd Haneefa Jaan as the Guest of Honour, and Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS) as the Special Guest.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Akhoon congratulated the author and his family, stating that it is a moment of pride for the entire community to witness such valuable contributions toward preserving Ladakh’s cultural and linguistic heritage. He remarked that the book is a “remarkable asset for future generations,” capturing historical elements—artifacts, cultural practices, attire, tools, and customs—in a visually rich and informative manner.

The CEC highlighted that the book offers an important visual documentation of how the people of Ladakh lived, worked, prepared food, dressed, and followed traditions across different eras. He praised the author’s dedication and noted that such work significantly contributes to preserving Ladakh’s identity.

Hon’ble MP Haji Mohd Haneefa Jaan also extended his greetings to the author, appreciating the effort and calling the book a valuable treasure for the society.

Special Guest Shri Rakesh Kumar (IAS) commended the author for taking up such meaningful work, stating that contributions like these are rare and greatly beneficial for the cultural understanding of future generations.

Whispers of Ladakh: An Illustrated Chronicle of Ladakh’s Fashion, Tools and Artifacts in the Local Tongue is a unique effort to preserve Ladakh’s traditional vocabulary and cultural expressions. The book documents local words used for everyday objects—many of which are slowly fading from common usage—and presents them through simple handmade sketches.
