| Dr. Motup Angmo Honoured with the Prestigious Dr. Sharat Chandra Das Endowment ACOIN Award 2024 | | 
Leh,November 12 (Scoop News)- The Directorate of Health Services, Ladakh, proudly congratulates Dr. Motup Angmo, Consultant Ophthalmologist, SNM Hospital, Leh, on being conferred with the Dr. Sharat Chandra Das Endowment ACOIN Award 2024 by the Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India (ACOIN). This esteemed recognition celebrates her untiring, dedicated, and sincere commitment towards the implementation of community eye health care services in the Indian subcontinent.
Dr. Angmo joined SNM Hospital, Leh, in 2017 and has been an invaluable asset to Ladakh’s health services ever since. From 2018 onwards, she has single-handedly managed the Ophthalmology Department, overseeing both outpatient and inpatient services, performing a wide range of extraocular and intraocular surgeries—including emergency procedures—and administering intravitreal injections for retinal conditions. Her exemplary dedication includes managing ophthalmic emergencies around the clock, being on call 24/7 for over six years, and visiting her home in Nubra Valley only twice a year.
Beyond her clinical excellence, Dr. Angmo has been instrumental in bringing quality eye care to Ladakh’s remotest corners, conducting numerous outreach and school eye screening camps across Changthang, Nubra, Sham, and Kargil. She has also contributed immensely to capacity building by teaching AMT students and training nursing staff and ophthalmic assistants, nurturing the next generation of skilled eye care professionals in the region.
Even after being selected as Assistant Professor at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, Dr. Angmo chose to remain in Ladakh—driven by her sense of duty and compassion for her community, as she continued to be the region’s only ophthalmologist. Over the years, she has performed more than 3,000 eye surgeries, making a remarkable impact in reducing preventable blindness across Ladakh.
