IIIM celebrates CSIR foundation day

Jammu, October 03 (Scoop News)- The 81st foundation day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the autonomous R&D organization under Department of Science & Technology, Government of India founded way back in 1942, was celebrated here today at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) Jammu.
The celebrations in this connection were held at IIIM auditorium and were largely attended by eminent scientists, faculty members of research & educational institutions, entrepreneurs, invited dignitaries, guests, members of press & media and staff members of CSIR-IIIM. Prof. Amitabha Chattopadhyay, CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow was chief guest of this function who delivered foundation day lecture entitled, “Cholesterol Sensing by GPCRs: Challenges and Excitement.” Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director, National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh, was guest of honour.

Er. Abdul Rahim, Chief Scientist & Acting Director, IIIM Jammu in his welcome address introduced the Chief Guest to the audiences and described him as
a scientist of international repute who is Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society of Biology, the Royal Society of Chemistry, Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, India, West Bengal Academy of Science & Technology, Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences and Telangana Academy of Sciences. Further he informed that he is recipient of all top awards & recognition of Science like the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Prize in Biology, CSIR Bhatnagar Fellowship, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Biological Sciences, Ranbaxy Research Award, J.C. Bose Fellowship, SERB Distinguished Fellowship and Acharya P.C. Ray Memorial Award

As part of celebration of CSIR Foundation, on 29th September, open day was observed for the school children. Over 500 students accompanied by 30 teachers from 14 different schools visited the institute. The students were shown the various facilities of the laboratory and encouraged to interact with the scientific staff of CSIR-IIIM on the impact made due to the R&D activities. This open day approach helped students to know about relevant local and global scientific challenges; it can contribute to community development and promote an active global citizenship attitude. For students, it offered the opportunity to learn together in the real world and widened their horizons to learn from the scientific community other than their teachers.

On this occasion, the chief guest also distributed prizes for different activities conducted as part of foundation day celebrations. On this occasion, the staff members who have superannuated from the council service during last one year were also honoured. They include Girdhari Lal, Pinki Koul, Jasbir Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Rattan Lal, Samar Singh, Rajinder Kumar, Janak Raj, Satya Sharma, Girdhari Lal, Ashok Kumar, Dr. Anil Prabhakar, Bishan Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Ashwani Sharma, Neelam Sharma, Ajit Singh, Rajneesh Anand, Dr. D.M Mondhe, Suram Chand, Madan Lal, Urmila Jamwal, Kasturi Lal, Sunita Devi, Gurdarshan Singh, Sodhagar Mal, Sewa Ram. Pawan Kumar, Rajesh Tandon, Dr. Siya Ram Meena, Sanjay Sharma, Rajni Kumari, Anjum Padha and Dr. Zabeer Ahmed received a memento on completion of 25 years of council service.

The merit scholarship for wards of Council employees who secured more than 90% marks was also given. Snehal Gupta son of Rajesh Gupta, Administrative Officer secured 96.4% marks was awarded one time merit scholarship.

Prominent among many other present were Dr. Asha Chaubey, Head, Fermentation and Microbial Biotechnology Division, Anjum Sharma, Sr. Controller of Administration, Dr. Dhiraj Vyas, Head, Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division (PSA)
Dr. Sumit G Gandhi, Head, Infectious Diseases Division, I.B. Dixit, Controller of Finance and Accounts, Daleep Gehlot, Store & Purchase Officer

Dr Deepika Singh, Head Quality Management & Instrumentation Division conducted the proceedings whileas Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Head Pharmacology & CSIR-IIIM (Branch), Srinagar presented the vote of thanks.
