Later Congress leaders organized a protest rally on road and raised slogans against govt for failing to ensure security of minorities in Kashmir valley.

Speaking on the occasion, Mir said that series of protests against BJP government’s “anti-people” policies strongly resonated with the people. The Congress party will take this fight forward with a series of protests against the price rise and unemployment in the coming weeks, he said.He said the people of India are suffering because of the Modi government’s “economic mismanagement” and the Congress will expose this before the people of the country.“Inflation is being exacerbated by higher taxes on essential goods like curd, buttermilk, and packaged food grains, while the transfer of public assets to crony capitalists and the introduction of the misguided Agnipath scheme are making a bad employment situation worse,” he said. He said that due to the inflation, cost of living is increasing and it is pinching everybody hard. “Oil prices have increased due to which prices of commodities have also increased. Common man is struggling to survive.Congress will continue to spread awareness about these anti-people policies among the people and increase pressure on the BJP government to change course, Mir said.

Mir accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ignoring critical issues facing the country and sought to know when he will hold an interactive session on rising inflation. He said the PM was engrossed in organizing various kinds of Charcha’, but seems to have no time to address pressing issues like inflation, sluggish economic growth and rising unemployment. The PM is ignoring burning issues of the country. The ‘Publicity Minister’ is engrossed in organizing events,” he said. The people of the country are struggling with rising inflation and the youths are finding it difficult to get jobs. The Prime Minister is not even talking about the problems being faced by farmers and workers, the Congress leader said.“When will Prime Minister Modi, who is busy doing ‘Chai Pe Charcha’, ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’, do ‘Mehangai Pe Charcha’? Mir asked. The issue is of vital importance and the Government should act fast in this direction because every day lost can have adverse effects on the economy and can add to the woes of the people. What is the fun of the people centric Government sitting at the helm when the people are facing misery on account of endless and arbitrary rise in taxes on fuel and snowballing inflation with relative increase in the prices of essential commodities, asked Mir .“

Mir claimed that India’s 50-crore poor comprising socially and economically weaker sections in rural areas and urban slums are pushed to acute poverty under the effect of inflation. The declining wage rates, Covid-19, high rural unemployment, income inequality and high food inflation have far-reaching implications for India’s trajectory towards alleviating poverty. The poor are still recovering from the disastrous effects of Covid-19, whereas inflation has a diabolic impact on the poor. The cost of living has become burdensome as the average prices of petrol and diesel per litre doubled from Rs 66 and Rs 53, respectively, in 2015 to Rs 110 and 96 in May 2022, whereas the retail price of LPG domestic cooking gas has gone up from Rs 600 to Rs 1,000 for the same period. The average edible oil prices have spiked from Rs 125 to Rs 200. On an average, the prices of pulses, vegetables, edible oil, fruits, milk, egg, fish, meat and other commodities have increased by 50 per cent. The prices of essential food items have increased by 50% in seven years (2015 to 2022), whereas the real wage rate has risen by 22 per cent. These figures show that inflation has dented the real income of the poor, making their lives miserable as the food basket constitutes a substantial proportion of the total expenditure on the poor. The net effect is that the poor earn less and borrow loans to maintain the minimum standard of living ,added Mir .

Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that inflation has affected people at all levels. Even a cup of tea is now beyond the reach of the common citizens. The Centre has not taken any firm steps to control skyrocketing prices. "The BJP government's cluelessness about the economy and financial management has been out in the open for long now. Instead of accepting it and seeking guidance from experts, the BJP only resorts to trickery to create an optical delusion," Bhalla alleged.JKPCC Working President launched a scathing attack against the government, saying India was no longer a democracy, but a dictatorship. “India is witnessing the death of democracy,” he said. “What India has built brick by brick, starting almost a century ago, is being destroyed in front of your eyes. Anybody who stands against this idea of onset of dictatorship is viciously attacked, jailed, arrested and beaten up.” He accused the central government of making the lives of people miserable and betraying people. Bhalla hit out at BJP government claiming that price rise had broken the common man's backbone while those in power were busy talking big. He said that there was a rise in the price of pulses, LPG and other commodities but the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were silent on the issue.BJP is talking big but not concerned about the plight of the common man whose backbone has been broken due to price rise," he alleged. He claimed that the BJP government was losing trust of the people. When prices increased during the Congress rule, hue and cry was raised by the BJP, but today the NDA government is doing nothing to provide succour to the people, he alleged. “We decry the politics of hate and divide, as Congress believes the all-time relevant slogan of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist unity,” he said. Since independence, the unemployment and inflation all time high rate show that BJP led Government makes situation vulnerable across the India, Mir added. It is unfortunate that common people of India are forced to pay the charges for their essential items in the form of GST, added Bhalla.

JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that Government is short of words over highest ever taxes on petroleum products is earning hefty amount as profit but on the other hand the common man which has experienced the worst time under their rule has been subjected to miserable life by this ruthless tax regime on petrol and diesel which has impacted severely the prices of essential commodities. Sharma demanded proactive government intervention to check food and fuel inflation, increase employment in rural areas, reduce income inequality, strengthen the public distribution of essential commodities among the poor and enhance the average daily wage rate in rural India to minimize the cost of living and reduce the impact of inflation on the poor.

Yogesh Sawhney and Manmohan Singh accused the government of deliberately increasing the prices of petrol and diesel. They demanded that the Central reduce its excise duties on petroleum products.“The Modi government has completely failed in keeping its promises to the people of India. The need of the hour is for different parties to set aside their differences and come together to change this government,” they said. They said that on one hand, the government was increasing taxes as well as the prices of petroleum products and gas that had made the life of the low-income group miserable and on the other unemployment was increasing but the government failed to devise an effective economic plan for solution of the core issues. They slammed the government for changing the focus of the budget from welfare of the people to elections.
