GDC Drass conducts career guidance, counselling session for students


Kargil, May 01 (Scoop News)-GDC Drass on Tuesday conducted career guidance and counselling session to enlighten and aid 12th-grade pass outs and students awaiting results of Higher Secondary Schools Drass and Bhimbat about the myriad subjects and streams available at the college.

The session garnered enthusiastic participation from students and educators alike, furthering the institution's commitment to academic excellence and student support.

The event commenced with welcome note by Principal, Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi followed by detailed presentation on the New Education Policy (NEP) and the array of facilities available for students at the college.

He said the session exemplify their dedication to providing comprehensive support and guidance to empower students in realizing their full potential. The program showcased the college's achievements and outstanding facilities through a documentary screening.

The sessions on the career guidance started with lecture by Dr. Imtiyaz Hussain, Assistant Professor, Botany on opportunities and subjects within science stream, enlightening students on potential career paths and academic pursuits.

Second speaker, Assistant Professor Environmental Science, Sajjad Hussain emphasized the significance of counselling and elucidated on the vast opportunities inherent in the Environmental Studies (EVS) subject

Through interactive discussions and engaging presentation, students were acquainted with the interdisciplinary nature of EVS and its role in shaping solutions to complex environmental issues.

Third speaker, Assistant Professor Shabir Hussain from commerce department provided insights into the realms of commerce and management, underscoring the diverse pathways available to students in these fields.

Fourth speaker, Assistant Professor Stanzin Stamdin from English Department highlighted the importance of language skills and also provided guidance on how students can enhance their language skills effectively. The discussion navigated through topics ranging from language proficiency's impact on academic performance to its indispensable role in unlocking diverse career opportunities globally.

Last speaker, Dr. Samina Rehman, Department of Sociology, elucidated with a keen focus on the interdisciplinary nature and diverse career avenues within social sciences. Students were acquainted with the myriad opportunities and career prospects available in fields such as sociology, psychology, economics, political science, and anthropology, among others.

Assistant Professor Kaneez Fatima presented vote of thanks to all participants and attendees. Farida Banoo, Convener Career Counselling Cell coordinated and guided the sessions as moderator.

Lastly, the counselling cell encouraged students to avail themselves of guidance and support at any time, inviting them to explore opportunities and address queries at the college.
